Things We Do Now .... That the Coronavirus is Here
We marvel at the difference in reaction of the people and the media in Spain and the US. In the US there's a run on toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Here it's still "no pasa nada" and people are greeting with a double kiss hello (!!!) We wish we were in a healthy zone in the middle where people weren't completely freaking out, but also that soap and regular hand-washing was encouraged and taught at the boys' school.
We buy four of these twelve euro huge hand sanitizers at Corte Ingles. We buy 2 more small ones at a corner store. We pick up Leo from school and he is slathering his "hanitizer" all over his arms and hands.
We buy all the kale and pick all the oranges. This will last us 4 days.
We ask for permission to swear.
We are devastated Mimi and Grandpa had to cancel their trip. We hope they can reschedule in May or June but we understand if it can't happen. We will come back with them another time, we promise.
We buy DisneyPlus as a consolation.
We steel ourselves for home schooling. It seems like the boys are just now hitting their stride and news of school closings in Madrid has us thinking it will happen here next. Will says "Dad and I are going to get into so many fights"
We allow a news dump in the morning and at night and try to avoid hitting refresh on the worldometers coronavirus cases list and seeing Spain creep past France and Germany.
Me acting like I'm not constantly reading/watching covid news. |
We get into Mission Impossible movies on Netflix because it's mindless fun and Tom Cruise and his team save everyone every time with just a millisecond til the world explodes. We wonder what's going on with Tom C. and his estranged daughter Suri and we remember that time he jumped on Oprah's couch. We wish that's what was dominating the news cycle right now.
We coach the boys to wash wash wash!!!! your hands. And then immediately after they are finished, we watch them pick their noses. We get these types of notices on our WhatsApp chats.
We go outside and take hikes and sit on the terrace and enjoy this incredible weather and take big grateful gulps of fresh air.
We are sitting tight, but not too tight, reading credible news, but not too much of it and wishing and hoping for peace, calm and a turning tide in this disaster. We love all of our faithful readers and hope you can find a sense of calm and peace, too!
Namaste (no kisses or hugs)
